The combination of ingredients in
Interceptor Spectrum Chews (aka Interceptor Plus)
prevents heartworm infection, controls adult roundworm, immature
roundworm, adult whipworm, adult hookworm, adult tapeworm, and aids in the
control of adult hookworm infection.
Interceptor Spectrum
Chews, with its sister product Sentinel Spectrum just
approved by FDA in 2012, is an enhanced version on
the traditional Interceptor Flavor Tabs. The new product
adds the anthelmintic praziquantel to the existing
Interceptor formula, allowing for treatment and control of tapeworms. This
increases the cost by an extra $3/dose compared to
the old Interceptor Tab. So do expect the product to be more
"expensive".
Interceptor Spectrum Tasty Chews active ingredients are
milbemycin oxime and praziquantel.
Milbemycin oxime interferes with nerve transmission in invertebrates, which helps protect against heartworm, roundworm, hookworm and whipworm (minimum dose rate: 0.5mg/kg).
Praziquantel causes muscle spasm in tapeworm, which are then attacked by enzymes and disintegrate (minimum dose rate: 5mg/kg). It kills all intestinal forms of tapeworm except Spirometra spp, which require a higher than standard dose rate.
Dosage and administration
The dose can be added to a small meal or placed directly in the mouth, similar to tablet dosing.
